Tennessee law permits the person or entity controlling property to prohibit weapons on property that is properly posted in accordance with Tennessee Code Annotated § 39-17-1359 .

Applicable legal exceptions remain in effect. Nothing on this website is intended to alter rights or exceptions established by federal, state or local law.

The Fentress County Agricultural Fair gratefully acknowledges the support of the Tennessee Department of Agriculture and the State of Tennessee.

From funds appropriated by the General Assembly of the State of Tennessee for the purpose of aiding agricultural fairs and livestock shows in the payment of agricultural premiums, the Fentress County Agricultural Fair has been allotted its proportionate share by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture.

State-aid funding assists qualifying agricultural fairs in recognizing exhibitors and supporting agricultural education, competition and community participation.

All livestock and poultry entered, shown or exhibited at the Fentress County Agricultural Fair must comply with the current requirements of the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Division of Animal Health .

General Requirements

• No animal showing clinical signs of an infectious or communicable disease may enter or remain on the fairgrounds.
• Animals transported with or exposed to an animal showing signs of contagious disease may also be refused entry or sent home.
• Most livestock must be accompanied by a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection and required permanent identification.
• Tennessee livestock certificates issued for fair purposes are generally valid for 90 days. Certificates for out-of-state animals are generally valid for 30 days.
• Horses and other equidae six months of age or older must have proof of a negative Equine Infectious Anemia test within the preceding 12 months.
• Out-of-state animals must also meet all current Tennessee import requirements.

Poultry Requirements and Disease Alerts

Poultry must meet all current testing, flock certification and health requirements applicable to its state of origin.

Out-of-state poultry must originate from qualifying disease-clean flocks or be accompanied by required negative Pullorum-Typhoid and Avian Influenza test documentation.

If highly pathogenic avian influenza is detected in Tennessee or a neighboring state, the commingling of poultry at fairs and exhibitions may be suspended.

Animal-Area Health and Safety

• Wash hands thoroughly after touching animals, bedding, pens or equipment.
• Do not eat or drink inside animal exhibition areas.
• Keep pacifiers, sipping cups and food outside animal areas.
• Young children should be closely supervised around livestock and poultry.
• Guests experiencing influenza-like illness should avoid animal areas and seek appropriate medical guidance.

Management Authority

Tennessee requirements establish minimum legal standards. Fair management may establish additional or more stringent requirements when necessary to protect animals, exhibitors and the public.

Exhibitors must present evidence of compliance when requested by the State Veterinarian, an authorized representative or fair management.
