The Fentress County Agricultural Fair grew from a community with deep agricultural roots and has developed into a long-running celebration of farming, education, competition and local pride.
Fentress County was created in 1823 on the Cumberland Plateau. Jamestown developed as a small agricultural trade center, serving farms that produced corn, small grains, livestock, tobacco, poultry and pumpkins.
Available Tennessee fair reference lists date the establishment of the Fentress County Fair to 1924. That places the fair’s roots more than a century ago.
Fentress County fair leaders have also served the statewide fair community. Tennessee Association of Fairs records identify P.G. Crooks, Rupert Blair, David Crooks and Brenda Pierce-Williams among its past presidents.
The Fentress County Agricultural Fair earned Tennessee’s Champion of Champions honor for the 2015 fair season, recognizing excellence in agriculture, education, operations and community spirit.
The fair was named Tennessee’s 2018 Single A division champion and was formally recognized by the Tennessee General Assembly in 2019.
The fair again earned Division A State Champion honors for the 2023 season. A 2024 joint resolution of the Tennessee General Assembly honored the Fentress County Agricultural Fair for the achievement.
The fair creates opportunities for people of all ages to learn, compete, gather and celebrate the work and traditions of Fentress County.
Livestock, crops, poultry, 4-H, FFA and agricultural exhibits remain at the heart of the fair.
Exhibits and activities encourage learning through agriculture, science, skilled trades, homemaking and creativity.
Young exhibitors build confidence, responsibility and practical skills through shows, pageants, projects and competitions.
The fair provides a place for neighbors, families, schools, businesses and organizations to come together.
The Fentress County Fair season includes motorsports, rodeo, horse and mule shows, livestock competition, pageants and community activities scheduled across several months. Official fair week remains August 23–29, 2026.
